Continuing the 2009-10 hockey lineup from Upper Deck, we have 2009-10 SP Game Used Hockey, which is aimed more at the higher-end of the mid-range products, similar to SPx in football or Ballpark Collection in baseball. Each pack will contain a game-used or autograph card with Upper Deck topping last year’s Fight Strap cards by offering a card consisting of a Jersey, Patch, Tag Patch and Fight Strap on the same card.

Obviously, this set is loaded full of autographs and memorabilia, although my hunch is that the large majority of the cards will be single fabric and single autographs with perhaps one patch or multi-player card per box, with the Game Gear cards falling one per case or so. Speaking of those, I have a feeling that these Game Gear cards are going to be huge, as Upper Deck encroaches on territory similar to what we used to see from Leaf Certified and Absolute Memorabilia as far as cards with multiple types of game-used material in it.
As with any product which guarantees a hit per pack, this is going to be a huge gamble. Because of that, however, it’s likely that sales of this product will be brisk, which is great for Upper Deck. The images of this look very nice, but it’ll all come down to what’s actually in the product when it launches at the end of this month.
