I know, I’m not the first person to break this news, especially given that I can’t get Donruss (or Press Pass, or SA-GE , or Razor) to respond to emails.  However, with that out of the way, let’s look at some of the first products of 2009.

2009 Playoff Prestige:  Hitting stores on May 13, 2009, and retailing for $4 a pack hobby (and presumably $3 retail), you’re still going to get 1 rookie per pack in both hobby and retail, and 4 ‘hits’ per box in the hobby market, with at least one guaranteed to be an autograph.  Outside of that, you’re looking at pretty much the same as 2008 and 2007, with a few differences in the insert sets.  If they can do a good set of short-printed rookies, this could be a nice set to hold us over a while.

2009 Donruss Elite:  Comes out June 10, 2009 at $6 a pack and is Hobby Exclusive, although you might see a few packs at Wal-Mart and Target in blister packs.  This only gives you three ‘hits’ a box, with one guaranteed autograph, and only one parallel and two RCs.  The Autographs will likely sell well, but considering you’re only getting a handful of cards in a box that are that good….and this looks like more of a product to get singles out of on eBay, and maybe get a box when they’re cheaper.
